A Note for My Christian Family
As we prepare to cast our vote tomorrow, my prayer is that we wouldn’t get fearful or hyped up with what the future will hold. Of course, we must continually pray for our nation and government. That our nation would honor the Lord in all areas of life, and that God would raise up godly leaders. But no matter what happens, we must never take our eyes off our mission as believers.
Our mission: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. Matthew 28:19
Our mission is to partner with Jesus to save the lost and make disciples. This doesn’t change no matter what is happening in our lives or nation.
God is greater than any president. God is greater than tyrant leaders. And God’s plans and mission will prevail. No matter who is elected, no matter what our future holds, the mission God gives us NEVER changes.
I was reminded a few weeks ago that the church often thrives in oppression. Just take a look at other countries where the gospel is banned- there are people who are facing life and death because of their faith in Jesus, but that has never stopped them. If anything, the church is exponentially growing in the midst of unimaginable persecution. As Americans, why do we believe the lie that if the “wrong” president gets elected, all things will go to hell? We need to have more faith in God that no matter what happens in our nation, lives can be changed because the Gospel will NEVER be subject to human authority.
God moves, regardless of whose leading it. God changes hearts, regardless if our religious liberties are stripped from us. God will show up, even if we are facing literal death in the midst of oppression.
I am also nervous of what our future may hold. But I refuse to allow those anxieties to overtake me because I know the truth that my God is greater. I don’t want this nation to take a turn for the worse. I don’t want religious freedoms to be taken from me. But dare I say: Whatever will advance the mission of the Gospel is what I am willing to embrace. Because at the end of day, the most important thing is NOT our nation’s government. The most important thing is seeing people accept Jesus Christ as their Savoir so they may have a home in heaven.
We must remember, our kingdom is NOT of this world. Christians are called to represent the only true King and kingdom. We must remember that our nation’s government is TEMPORARY, and that Jesus IS coming back to rule and reign on the earth.
Tomorrow, follow your conscious. Cast your vote. But at the end of the day, take heart in the fact that God is not shocked at who will get elected. God is still the same in His character and mission. God still has a plan for your life regardless of who gets elected. And that God is GREATER than any president, king, mayor, senator, and the like.
Jesus rules and reigns- now and forever.
If you are not a Christian, I want to remind you that the hope that is found in the Gospel of Jesus Christ is available to you. Our hope is not found in going to church or being a “good” person. Our hope is found in the person of Jesus Christ. It is a hope that is tangible, because Jesus is alive. He conquered sin, death, hell, and the grave. This means you don’t need to be captive to your sin or past. You don’t need to be afraid of death. You can be assured of your home in heaven. And you can have peace and hope for your future. Give your life to Jesus- you will never regret it.
"For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace, His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity..." [Isaiah 9:6,7a]
