Say Yes

I don’t know who you are. I don’t know what God is asking of you. But one thing I do know, say yes. If you have committed your life to Jesus, and He is asking you to do something, say yes. No matter what is costs, no matter if it’s hard- say YES.

Saying yes means obedience. The bible says this; “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” John 14:15. These are the words of Jesus while speaking to His disciples. He told them as plain as day- if you love me, you will keep my commands. You will say “yes” to what I ask of you. Many people think that while following Jesus we can negotiate with Him. We can say yes to some things, while saying no to other things. (Trust me, I have been there). But being a disciple of Christ doesn’t work that way. When we commit our lives to Jesus, we are signing up for the “yes” journey. We will say yes to Him, no matter the cost.

This ‘yes’ journey may scare some people. Some of us can come up with irrational ideas of what God may ask you to do (trust me, I’ve been there too). But in those moments of being afraid to give Jesus our all, we need to remind ourselves of this truth: “God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.” 1 John 1:5b One of my favorite preachers stated it as simply as this:

“God has no dark side”.

God is good- ALL THE TIME. His character never changes, it doesn’t matter who you are. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). If the bible promises He is good, then you can count on that. It’s important to understand that God will not ask you to do something that won’t benefit you or someone else. His plans are GOOD (Jeremiah 29:11) God is love. God is light. God is good. He is looking out for your best interests, and you need to trust that.

If God asks you to do something, the obedience will be worth it. Even if it hurts to lay down your pride to say yes, or it doesn’t make sense. Sometimes the path of obedience will not make ANY sense (trust me, I have been down that road as well). But the beautiful part is that as we keep following Jesus, Romans 8:28 will be proven to us- “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” God works ALL THINGS together for our good. Our messy pasts, sin, doubt, and emptiness- He can and WILL use it all, IF you let Him.

Saying yes to Jesus will be difficult. But with the power of the Holy Spirit, we can do whatever He asks of us because it is HIS strength working in us. Once again, I don’t know who you are and what God is asking of you, but say yes. You will never regret it.

God bless you,

Melissa
