God Knows Best
As I begin to write this blog, I am currently relearning another valuable lesson. The lesson that God knows what is best for me. Many times in my life I have doubted the direction God was leading me. Many times have I tried to get ahead of Him with the plans He has for me. Each time I distrust what I feel God is telling me, and I try to take a-hold of the reins, I come back with the same lesson over and over- As God as my Creator, He knows what is best because I am His creation.
As I dwell on the truth that God knows me and knows what is best, I am reminded of Psalm 139. Just take a look…
“O Lord, you have examined my heart
and know everything about me.
You know when I sit down or stand up.
You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.
You see me when I travel
and when I rest at home.
You know everything I do.
You know what I am going to say
even before I say it, Lord.
You go before me and follow me.
You place your hand of blessing on my head.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too great for me to understand!”
Wow. No words can describe the knowledge and vastness of our God. The beautiful part is that we have a God who cares. He cares for His creation. He didn’t create us with the intention of being distant. He created us with the intention of being involved and knowing our past, present, and future. If we truly even had a small grasp on God’s love and knowledge of us, I believe we would trust Him with everything.
Trust and faith in Jesus is the beginning for one who chooses to be a Christian. You need to have the faith to believe Jesus Christ died on the cross, rose from the dead, and has forgiven you of your sins. Faith is where this walk begins. But the road of faith is where you must continue to walk down all the days of your life as you follow Jesus.
So many of us doubt the fact that God actually knows what is best. And I am talking about people who say they BELIEVE in the Christian God. They call themselves Christians, say they live for Jesus, yet still try to do things their own way. They hold onto their dreams without even asking what God wants for them, date the people they shouldn’t, make decisions with Jesus on the back burner. Many people are still living a life where they say they want Jesus and all His plans, but their actions show the opposite. Being a Christian means surrender to Jesus, and continual surrender to Him till the day you die.
The following sentence is something I have to tell myself when I realize I am being stupid for not trusting Gods lead on my life. I hope it speaks to you as much as it has for me:
The God who created the universe and the stars, who created our world and knows intimately everyone who dwells on it, who is all knowing, all powerful, and is in control of life itself… we try to tell HIM that we know what is best for ourselves…
It is silly logic when you think about it. Compare it to a four year old who is telling Mommy and daddy the best way on how to run a household. I’m sure you can think of some crazy things that kid would come up with. But compared to God, that is how we behave. We TELL God what is best for us. GOD. We shouldn’t be TELLING God ANYTHING! Instead, we need to be listening for His voice, not willing to move until we have His guidance and blessing on the choices we make (John 10:27).
Many won’t say aloud that they don’t trust God, but their actions tell a different story. It is foolish if we think we know more than God. It is foolish when we choose our plans over His. He is a good, loving Father, and when He tells you to do something, it is because He loves you. God the Father is in the business of love. His love for us is infinite and we will never grasp the height and depth of His love (Romans 8:35-39). When He asks us to do something, we need to trust Him even when we do not understand. We need to trust Him at His word, that He does things out of love because love is WHO HE IS (1 John 4:8)
Trusting God is a process, and it is something none of us will perfect. But even in our doubts, we can put our faith to action and choose to follow Jesus anyways. Even when it doesn’t make sense, when things look impossible, when our flesh is fighting us- CHOOSE JESUS. He is the best thing for your life and soul. Don’t fall for the traps of the enemy- he wants nothing more than to destroy your life. Jesus has life to give, an abundant life (John 10:10). To obtain that life, all you need is to trust, obey, and follow. It’s simple and difficult all in one. But with the power of the Holy Spirit alive in us, we can follow Jesus wherever He may lead us. As you hear the Holy Spirit’s voice today, do not harden your heart. Trust in the fact that God loves you, and that He DOES know what is best for you.
(My prayer is that for all of Gods children, we would learn how to fully rely and depend on His leading. That we would not try to figure things out on our own, but rather we would learn to trust in Him with our WHOLE life, even in the moments we don’t want to.)
“And yet, O Lord, you are our Father. We are the clay, and you are the potter. We all are formed by your hand.”
God bless you, and may you learn to walk as He leads you!
