Living Sacrifice

"So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—you’re sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you."
Romans 12:1-2 MSG

I don't know when Christians started to get the idea that when your give your life to Christ, you don't have to change. Change, maturity, and transformation is the NORMAL part of Christianity. If you call yourself a Christian, but you aren't maturing in Christ-like qualities ( "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control..." Galatians 5:22,23a) then dare I say, you need to double check your walk with Jesus.

Christians need to be progressing daily. We need to be spending time with God in his word and prayer daily if we are to be transformed by him. Unfortunately, because we are human, we get distracted and become more interested in other things. We become stuck in our ways and patterns. Jesus didn't die for us so we could just stay stuck. Jesus died for us so we could have a NEW start as a son or daughter of the King of Kings. Jesus died for you so you could be set free from your past mistakes, guilt, and shame.

I often write about the freedom Christ gives because I have come to see how many Christians aren't living a free life. There's so many people who go to church, but NEVER find the freedom and abundant life Jesus provides. It's sad and heartbreaking. If that's you, it saddens me because you are MISSING OUT!!!!!! Freedom in Christ is worth anything you need to do to get closer to Jesus.

If you need to break up with a bad boyfriend or girlfriend- it's worth it.
If you need to sacrifice some TV time- it's worth it.
If you need to separate yourself from bad influences- it's worth it.

If you need to confess some sins (past or present), it’s worth it!

I don't know what Jesus is asking you to surrender, but whatever it is, it is worth it!
You will never regret surrendering to Jesus. You will find abundant peace and joy if you do.

I want to encourage you today to get serious with Jesus. Stop trying to hold onto your own plans. God's plans for you are greater. Sure, it'll be uncomfortable at times. It'll stretch you. Whatever you need to give up to be closer to Jesus, just do it. Be obedient to God because he's the answer to many problems in your in life. It doesn't mean life is going to be easy or perfect, but by the power of His word and Spirit, he will give you the strength to clear out a lot of the clutter in your life.

Be the living sacrifice God is asking of you. Allow God to transform you from the inside out so you can find freedom and his plans for your life.

P.S...

If you are not in a relationship with Jesus Christ, just know that you can come however you are. Whatever brokenness you are carrying, Jesus isn't intimidated by it. I don't understand how people bought into the lie that they need to have it all together to come to Jesus. No one has it all together. Everyone has something they are struggling with. Come to Jesus and find rest in His peace. Come however you are. Jesus loves you- even in your mess.

"The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price."
