Blessed Relationships

Many people in mine and Vinnie's life mention how great of a couple we are. They ask “how’s married life?” We respond- “great! Awesome! Fantastic! We’re doing really well, and we actually mean it.”

The reason WHY Vinnie and are actually doing so well in marriage is not because of the “honeymoon phase” or we’ve only been married just over a year- it’s because we pursue Jesus in everything we do.

Now before you think I’m a wack-a-do for bringing Jesus up (again) you need to realize where our faith lies. We believe that Jesus is real and alive. He died and was resurrected. We believe that when you genuinely give your whole life to him, He will come live in you by the power of the Holy Spirit. When you give your life to Him you will be born-again as a child of God. Ultimately God will direct your path for the rest of your life. He has a way of life that is GOOD for you, and if you follow that way, you will be blessed.

The following verses are an example of doing things GODS way.

Vinnie and I are doing well because we follow this:

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
1 Corinthians 13:4-7

This is what true love is all about, and Jesus Christ set the example for us. When you put anyone (including your spouse) before yourself in ALL things, things will go well for you. When your SELFLESSNESS overcomes your SELFISHNESS, you will be blessed.

The bible says “it’s more blessed to give than to receive”… God was right about that. We are designed to live our life for Jesus and for people. We were designed to sacrifice ourselves and to give ourselves freely without expecting anything in return. These are the ingredients for a blessed marriage- true, sacrificial love that is empowered by the Holy Spirit alive within you. We cannot love the way God commands us apart from His strength within us. When I choose to lay down my pride, admit when I’m wrong, ask for forgiveness, love when I don’t want to… ALL of that is because Jesus is alive within me.

Without Christ I am selfish and self-seeking. With Christ my heart is to please God by loving people well because that is what Jesus did when he walked the earth. God wants to bless all of your relationships, especially your marriage. Relationships and marriage was His design. When we follow His design by obeying His ways, He will bless us with the good things He provides.
