Ask

 “Ask, and it will be given to you;

seek, and you will find;

knock, and it will be opened to you.

For everyone who asks receives,

and the one who seeks finds,

and to the one who knocks it will be opened.

Matthew 7:7-8

The word ASK in the Greek is translated to a word that means; ask, beg, call for, crave, desire, require.

Is this how you are praying to God? Do you crave and desire to know Him and the plans He has for you? For myself, before Jesus grabbed a hold of my heart, the biggest driving question within me was, “why am I alive?” I struggled with feeling worthless, so this question propelled me on my search. I desired and craved that answer more than anything.

But by my surprise, I didn’t automatically find my purpose in life. Instead, I found the love of God. When His love encountered me, it consumed me to the point of knowing, this is what I was made for- I was made for knowing and loving God through a relationship with Jesus. Everything is secondary to this main purpose.

There is really no formula for discovering Jesus and His plans other than simply pursuing Him thru prayer, reading the bible, and thru authentic community. It really is that plain and simple. I am NOT a fan of the “3 step process”, or just do “this, that, & this” and you’ll discover your God-given destiny! [Enter sarcasm]. Finding your God-given destiny will not be handed to you in a hand-basket. It takes laying down your life, picking up your cross, and surrendering to Jesus. It’s not pretty or easy at times, but it is SO worth it because everything you are searching for is found in knowing Him personally.

Jesus wants to be known by you. Christianity is different. It’s more than just going to church every week. It’s discovering a personal relationship and friendship with Jesus. He wants to heal your heart, redeem your past, and propel you into the future.

Whatever you are asking God about today (whether it’s about friends, family, careers, relationships, marriage, kids, purpose, direction, healing, freedom from depression, anxiety, addictions, self-harm, negativity, the fear of ____ … and the list keeps going!) my encouragement to you is to not give up. Don’t give up in you search for Him. His word promises over and over that when you call out to Him, He will answer you.

Reflect:

What are some questions that are on your mind right now? Write them down + talk to God about them.

Do you feel confident in your relationship with God? Why or why not?

Are you confident in His love for you? Why or why not?
