Thrive

Thrive = to prosper or to flourish.

When I think of "thriving" in the Christian context, I think of being truly alive. Not alive in the sense of experiencing every adventure known to man. But having life bubble up from within because Jesus Christ who is Life lives within us.

As we bloom and thrive to be who God has made us to be, we begin to prosper. Now that might not necessarily mean prospering with your bank account and having a big house. Rather, it means prospering from the inside out, walking in freedom and purpose that this world cannot offer us.

But in order to truly thrive and prosper as children of God, we must know our identity.

As believers, everything we do- our freedom and purpose- should be rooted out of a deep knowing and understanding of who we are.

If we don’t know what God says about us, if we don’t know He has given us a new name, then we will never walk forward into our future, away from the past that wants to keep us bound.

To thrive means to become who God has designed you to be, and to walk into that with bold confidence empowered by the Holy Spirit who lives inside of you.

Take a look at what the word says about your identity as a believer in Jesus Christ.

You are a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17)
You are a child of God. (John 1:12)
You are His possession & you are chosen. (1 Peter 2:9)
You are free. (Galatians 5:1)
You are healed. (Isaiah 53:5)

God cannot lie. The bible is His written word. So, if this is what God says about you as a believer in His Son, then this is truth.

You are not your sin.
You are not your mistakes.
You are not your failures.
You are not your past.
You are not defined by your anxiety, depression, mental health, worries, fears, status, socio-economic status, your job, your lack of a job...

You are a child of God. You belong to Him, now and forevermore.

What if we allowed the truth of God’s word to re-defined our life? What if you and I believed what God said about you, rather than the lies of the enemy that wants to keep you bound in fear, insecurity, and doubt? What if you chose to believe God?

If you and I were to break free of these lies, could you imagine the kind of impact we could have on our sphere of influence?

As Disciples of Christ, we have a job to do. It's our mission to be on mission to not only break free from the lies that bind, but to set others free as well. We are commissioned to speak the truth of God’s word so we all are able to walk in freedom and purpose.

Every single one of us wants to prosper. We all want freedom. We crave a deep sense of meaning. Well, Jesus is the answer to all these longings.

When we fully surrender, abandoning our old life, we will be able to embrace the new life found in Jesus Christ. In Him we can have a fresh start and a brand new identity.

My prayer for us is that we would believe what God says about us. To be the people God is calling us to be. To know Him and His deep love for us. To let His love redefine our entire life. To abide with Christ every day and truly thrive in His love and plans.
