Come out of Hiding

Hiding from God is a very silly concept, isn’t it? As silly as it sounds, we have all been guilty of it.

When we choose to follow Jesus, there will be many times in our journey where He will reveal things in our heart that He wants us to deal with. These moments, are often uncomfortable, annoying, and sometimes painful.

The result of everything going on in our life is all stemming from the condition of our heart. Our heart stores up our hurts and wounds. Our mind, will, emotions, and intellect- everything that makes us, us, is a result of what’s going on within the depths of our heart.

To know Jesus on a personal level and to live in His presence, we need to let Him into the depths of our heart so He can heal and transform us from the inside out.

We often try to “hide” from God because we’re afraid of letting Him in completely. Maybe we have messed up or sinned badly, and we are burying ourselves under the weight of shame, guilt, and fear. Maybe we’re battling the lie of not being enough and we’re ashamed of who we are or the battles we’re in. Maybe we’re afraid to let God in or we’re afraid to deal with our mess because, well honestly, we’re afraid of how God is going to deal with us.

But when we look at His word, we can find comforting truth that can set us free from our hiding:

Psalm 103:8-12 The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

When we give our lives to Jesus Christ, we don’t have to hide in fear and shame anymore. No matter how much we’ve messed up, no matter what has happened to us, we can come out of hiding because God is compassionate and gracious. He is slow to anger and He truly abounds in love because He IS love.

So many of us feel like God is disappointed in us. So many of us hear His voice in condemning tones of anger and frustration. My dear friend, this is not Gods voice towards us, and I want to challenge all of us (including myself) to let Him transform our mind so we hear His correct tone of voice.

God is so kind, gentle, and patient. He bends down to where we’re at in life, extending out His hand, inviting us to take it and just walk with Him. He doesn’t reject us or ridicule us. He doesn’t mock us or make fun of us. He never loses His patience with us. He understands our struggles and our battle with our sin and flesh, and He wants to help us through every bit of it. He is so kind and He loves us more than we could ever understand.

Come out of hiding, dear one. The Father already knows what you’re keeping from Him, and He still calls out to you. Let His Spirit break past the walls you’ve built so you can find healing and freedom in Jesus’ name.

God bless you,

Melissa
